Job description: This posting is for four (4) total positions, including (3) open-rank Clinical fixed-term faculty positions and (1) open-rank Practicum Education fixed-term faculty position. By applying, applicants will be considered for all vacancies.The School of Social Work at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for open-rank Clinical fixed-term faculty and Practicum Education fixed-term faculty positions (1.0 FTE). The mission of the School of Social Work is to advance equity, transform systems, and improve lives. The curriculum supports this mission and includes a focus on evidence-based practice; concern for disadvantaged, vulnerable, and oppressed individuals, families, and communities; and the design and development of social interventions. These positions will be reviewed annually for reappointment.Clinical Fixed-Term Faculty Teaching Positions: We are seeking candidates for three open-rank fixed-term teaching roles to teach across our online and on-ground MSW program. Candidates should have extensive social work practice experience and expertise capable of teaching both generalist and specialized courses (direct practice or macro). The ideal candidate should have a background in social work practice, involving assessment and intervention with individuals, families, and groups, or communities and organizations. Preference will be given to applicants with clinical or substance use and addictions licensures, knowledge of clinical methods, or macro-level work experience, as well as demonstrated skills and experience in teaching graduate-level classes or training. Candidates with clinical practice backgrounds who can teach within the Direct Practice concentration or those with macro social work practice experience and expertise who can teach in the Community, Management, Policy Practice (CMPP) concentration will be assigned to teach various Master of Social Work courses in our in-person and online programs. Fixed-term faculty typically teach 7 courses annually, generally 3 in the fall semester, 3 in the spring semester, and 1 summer course. Additional responsibilities include advising students, serving on committees, and other service duties. This position has a standard distribution of effort that includes 90% teaching and instruction and 10% service and community engagement.Practicum Education Position: We are seeking a candidate for one open-rank fixed-term faculty position responsible for coordinating practicum education in social work practice areas, as well as teaching four graduate courses per year. Candidates should have a breadth of social work practice experience and expertise and the ability to teach in generalist and direct practice or macro specialization courses. Specifically, the applicant should have experience in social work practice with assessment and intervention with individuals, families, groups, or communities and organizations. Experience working in practicum education is strongly preferred. Applicants with an LCSW or macro-level work experience and demonstrated skills and experience in teaching graduate-level classes or training are preferred. This position has a standard distribution of effort that includes 90% teaching and instruction and 10% service and community engagement.
Minimum Education and Experience RequirementsApplicants must possess a Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) degree from an accredited Council of Social Work Education program and a license in Clinical Social Work (LCSW) or macro-level social work experience.This position is advertised as open rank; to be considered at a Clinical Assistant Professor rank, applicants must additionally possess 7 years of relevant experience (6 of which must be post-Master's) or a doctoral degree in social work or in a related field.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and ExperiencePreferred qualifications include a minimum of 5 years, post-MSW practice experience; a superior record of teaching and training; and the ability to integrate research and scholarship into course development, assignments, and lectures. Experience working with social work students in practice or practicum placement settings is beneficial. Professional experience in direct practice or macro social work and teaching CMPP or direct concentration courses are preferred. Special consideration will be given to those with qualifications and experience in both areas, enabling them to teach across the curriculum. Applicants should have demonstrated skill and experience teaching graduate-level classes, including traditional classroom, online, and seminar formats, as well as supervising students in practicum placements. Relationship-building skills and knowledge of North Carolina communities are also preferred.
