The CTE Computer Science Instructor teaches Information Technology and Computer Science related courses. Instructors are responsible for meeting all scheduled classes/labs and providing instruction in accordance with the philosophy and objectives of the District and approved CTE course standards. Instructors are responsible for using teaching methods and digital media designed to reach students of varying educational and experiential backgrounds to allow each student the opportunity to master the skills and learning objectives of the course. The instructor in this position will be responsible for assisting students to discover and develop their talents in the technical fields of Computer Science. This position focuses on students’ academic development, career development, and personal/social development while providing learners with an insight and understanding of industry standards and the impact throughout society. Students will develop practical problem-solving skills related to the materials and processes of industry and be skilled in the safe use of tools and machines.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Meet all scheduled classes/labs/site visits and provide instruction in accordance with the philosophy and objectives of the District and approved Career and Technical Education (CTE) course standards.
  • Inform students of course requirements through a course syllabus, including specific objectives, means of attaining objectives, and methods of instruction and grading.
  • Evaluate students on a continuing basis to allow students and parents/caregivers to be aware of their progress.
  • Maintain and submit records as required by policy and procedures.
  • Recommend instructional materials, textbooks, appropriate instructional tools and equipment, and any supportive reference materials.
  • Promote equal opportunity education within the scope of assigned responsibilities.
  • Maintain required credentials, licenses, certification as appropriate, and proficiency and up-to-date knowledge in the subject matter area.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the concepts of diversity and multiculturalism and their application in the workplace.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by supervisor/administrator.
Education, Training and Experience:
  • Required: Criminal background check and District fingerprinting.
  • Required: License/Authorization in Career and Technical Education (CTE) as required by the Colorado Department of Education (CDE).
  • Required: Must have or be eligible to complete and maintain all CTE credentialing requirements and program authorizations issued by the Colorado State Board of Community Colleges and Occupational Education (SBCCOE).
  • Required: Demonstrated experience and ability with alternative teaching and learning delivery systems, such as online classes, remote learning, and the various uses of technology in the classroom.
  • Required: Demonstrated experience and ability to work with economically disadvantaged students, learning-disabled students, and students from diverse educational backgrounds.
  • Preferred: Experience teaching, or assisting, Computer related classes at the high school level on a high school campus.
Knowledge, Skills and Ability:
  • In-depth knowledge of the Computer Science content area.
  • Good organization and communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders within the school environment.
  • Knowledge of classroom management and conflict resolution.
  • Knowledge of and experience in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
