Basic QualificationsBasic Qualifications

Applicants must hold a Master's degree (with at least 18 hours coursework in the discipline), have at least two semesters' classroom experience, and be able to teach undergraduate courses in the following area(s): Reading, Writing, and Inquiry, specifically English W131 which teaches skills of critical reading, thinking, and writing to help students meaningfully engage artifacts, events, and issues in our world. The course bilds students' abilities to read written and cultural texts critically; to analyze those texts in ways that engage both students' own experiences and the perspectives of others; and to write about those texts for a range of audiences and purposes as a means of participating in broader conversations. Assignments emphasize the analysis and synthesis of sources in making and developing claims.

Additional QualificationsJob DescriptionAdjunct faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in the designated discipline/field of study to students from a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences. Teaching may include a variety of formats: face-to-face, remote, and online. Adjunct faculty are employed to teach up to 9 credit hours in the fall and spring semester and/or up to 6 credit hours during summer session. Teaching load is based on student enrollment and staffing needs. The adjunct faculty contract contains no expectation or guarantee of continued employment.Duties and Tasks


  • Develop course syllabi and instructional materials.

  • Maintain records, assign grades, and assess student progress.

  • Adhere to the policies, procedures, and regulations of Indiana University Kokomo.

  • Maintain current competence in the discipline or field of specialization.

  • Attend adjunct workshops and training.
