Job description: The Associate Professor of Aviation will be a 12-month, tenure-track faculty position. The Associate Professor of Aviation will be responsible for the primary task of teaching undergraduate courses offered in the Aviation Management Concentration. The candidate is expected to teach a wide variety of courses such as Airport Planning and Management, Air Traffic Control, Operations Management, Int'l Air Transportation, etc. based upon qualifications and program needs. While not required, the ideal candidate for this position will have the experience and additional FAA certifications (including UAS) with the ability to teach courses within both the Professional Pilot and Aviation Management concentrations curriculum.


  • Demonstrate and maintain professional competence and knowledge of subject matter

  • Maintain congruency with course descriptions, syllabus, and the University Catalog.

  • Maintain office hours to counsel and advise students on curriculum and career planning.

  • Participate in syllabi development and/or revision of content.

  • Participate in curriculum and assessment development.

  • Maintain and submit accurate and current reports and records involving student accountability, attendance, performance

  • Actively engage in scholarly activities that expand the profession's knowledge of Aviation Management

  • Participate in committees and official activities at the Aviation Program, College of Business and University levels.

  • Be current with new teaching technologies and demonstrate the ability to think, creatively, with innovation in mind, to meet the current needs of the profession

  • Develop and write grant requests related to aviation.

  • To serve as a faculty advisor for selected student clubs. which may include visiting secondary schools, attending national conferences, offering workshops, and adjudicating.

  • To develop new courses related to all aspects of Aviation Management ie: fiscal aspects, report and data collection and analytics, industry regulations, safety, legal, maintenance, safety management, industry career development.

  • To engage in other assignments as determined by the Director of Aviation Programs.



  • Must hold the earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution in Aerospace, Aviation, Education, Business, or other industry-related fields or an academic area appropriate to the course(s) being taught.

  • At least 5 years of successful teaching experience at the collegiate level of Aviation Management courses

  • Extensive aviation industry experience

  • Knowledge of current FAA policies, regulations, and procedures as related to airport operations

  • Experience using a learning management system for enhanced teaching

  • Solid oral and written communication skills

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in airline and/or operations management

  • Evidence of excellence in university teaching

  • FAA pilot certification and/or remote pilot certificate.

  • AAAE C.M. or A.A.E certification

  • FBO operations or airport operations experience



  • Successful completion of the tasks listed as requirements

  • Teaching evaluations by students and peer faculty

  • Ability to work successfully with other program members
