Job description: The Licensing Associate will evaluate physical sciences portfolio of cases for patentability and commercial potential. Interact with inventors and University partners to understand technology and market application. Participate in preparation of technology assessments and presentation to Intellectual Property Committee for decision on disposition of cases on agenda. Review and draft agreements. Develop and implement marketing plans for selected technologies, including the establishment of initial contacts with potential licensees and partners. Research industries and deal comparable for the valuation of related technologies and negotiate licenses. Monitor existing agreements for compliance. Interact/communicate with third parties regarding ongoing activities under active agreements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Evaluate the University's portfolio of patent cases for patentability and commercial potential.

  • Apply principles of Intellectual Property Law, Biomechanical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering in order to negotiate, review and draft agreements for engineering technology such as Licenses, Options, Inter-Institutional Agreements, Non-Disclosure Agreements and Materials Transfer Agreements.

  • Communicate and coordinate with inventors and University partners to understand technology and market applications.

  • Participate in preparation of technology assessments for decision on disposition of cases on agenda.

  • Review and draft agreements directed to technology licensing.

  • Develop and implement commercialization plans for selected technologies, including the establishment of initial contacts with potential licensees and partners.

  • Research industries and deal comparable for the valuation of related technologies and negotiate license. Monitor existing technology agreements for compliance.

  • Interact and communicate with third parties regarding ongoing activities under active agreements.

  • Apply principles of Intellectual Property Law, Biomechanical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering to perform technology transfers, technology development, and technology evaluation/analysis.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's in Mechanical Engineering, Biomechanical Engineering, or Intellectual Property Law with 12 months related experience.
