Job description: Rock West Composites, Inc. has an exciting opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineering Manager.Rock West Composites, Inc. is an engineering and manufacturing company dedicated to providing innovative solutions for commercial and government customers. This position is located in our San Diego North office at 7919 Saint Andrews Ave San Diego, CA and reports to the President of Aircraft Products.Position Summary:Lead the Manufacturing Engineering team in developing and documenting CAD/CAM, manufacturing, tooling, and testing requirements for composite and metal bond products. Oversee order architecture, including Bill of Materials, Item Masters, and Work Instructions. Analyze producibility and process variation to ensure manufacturing capability meets requirements. Drive efficiency and quality improvements through standardization and process control to support business objectives.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Lead and develop team of Manufacturing & CAD/CAM Engineers to create design/build plans that meet engineering requirements and contractual schedules. Monitor team output and productivity to ensure goals are met.
- Analyzes design/build concepts, including tooling strategies, to determine producible design/build definitions.
- Resolves technical problems of significant impact to performance, cost or schedule.
- Coordinates and implements new engineering principles, theories, advanced technologies and concepts.
- Implements lean principles and technologies.
- Oversees creation/documentation of internal standards/templates and specifications for outside processing activities (forming, heat treat, chemical processing, etc.), receiving and recertification (Shelf life) testing.
- Write clear, concise engineering reports documenting production build, inspection, test data, test methods, etc.
- Able to gather technical inputs cross-functionally to combine into clear, cohesive directions including layup, curing, machining, assembly, testing, material storage and shipping.
- Oversee creation of standards and specifications for buying and processing materials, components, and tooling for high-requirement orders.
- Experience with 3D Engineering (Loft Data, 3D Models) and 2D applications (Drawings, PCM’s, Mylars, etc), with Software CATIA V5/V6 Composite Workbench, SolidWorks CAD & PDM applications.
- Experience with Boeing Product Engineering Applications and Process Specifications (BAC5317, BAC5514, BAC5531, etc.)
- Experience with SAP ERP System or NetSuite.
- Experience with Boeing First Part Qualification and Preproduction Verification requirements and activities.
- Competent in Microsoft Office applications – MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Project, etc.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal & technical writing, presenting to customers and company leaders.
- Able to work cross-functionally (Estimations, Program Management, Operations, & Quality) to meet customer requirements.
- Ability to generate MS Project schedules time phased to address near-term action items.
- Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical or Materials Science Engineering, or related field.
- At least 10 years of engineering experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment.
- Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience, leading engineering and/or technical teams.
